Friendly City Books:
PossumTown Book fest Broadsheet

Graphic Design • Campaign Creative • Creative Direction

OVERVIEW

For the second-annual Possumtown Book Fest, hosted by Friendly City Books, our team at neonFROG designed a custom broadsheet to serve as both a program and a keepsake for attendees. Drawing inspiration from nostalgic Scholastic Book Fair order booklets, the piece blends playful familiarity with practical function—capturing the spirit of the event while guiding visitors through a full day of programming.

We collaborated alongside local artist Rachel Derise, whose signature possum illustration set the tone for this year’s festival. Our role was to build upon that visual identity and translate it into a cohesive, highly usable print piece.

APPROACH

Our goal was to create something more engaging than a standard event program, an interactive piece that people would want to hold onto, flip through, and reference throughout the day.

Leaning into the charm of vintage book fair materials, we incorporated:

  • Layered layouts and playful typography

  • Clearly organized schedules and sections

  • Visual cues to guide readers through dense information

We carefully balanced personality with clarity, ensuring the design felt fun and nostalgic without sacrificing usability. The broadsheet format allowed us to house a large amount of information—speaker lineups, schedules, maps, and more—while still maintaining a clean, approachable reading experience.

Throughout the process, we remained consistent with the established branding from the previous year, allowing the piece to feel like a natural extension of the Possumtown Book Fest identity.

OUTCOME

The final broadsheet served as a comprehensive, easy-to-navigate guide for festival attendees, enhancing their overall experience and helping them make the most of the event.

By combining nostalgic inspiration with thoughtful information design, we created a piece that was not only functional but memorable; something attendees could reference throughout the day and even take home as a keepsake.

The result was a seamless blend of art and utility, supporting the festival’s mission while elevating its visual presence.
